Well, it is a civic holiday where I am in Canada, but I don't think that's the reason

While I'm certain your mom's birthday is an equally auspicious occasion, I'd caution anyone attempting liken a womans birth or age to that of a 100+ year old coin. Either that or stay of birthday cake flight airspace.
