I am a little disappointed with the grade b/c I have seem some graded MS-62 that look worse than this one.

Sorry to hear about the grade but TPG are very tough on gold Indians.

Your coin would likely be a 62 or 63 without the scratch. When ANACS assigns "MS-60 Scratched" that means UNC Details to me.

well my disappointment is very small b.c I am very happy with the 1866-s. I am glad both are authentic to be honest.

ANACS gives an MS-60 maximum grade to any damaged uncirculated coin...meaning that it could very well be an MS-64 without the problem.

Johny54321 is right on target. Your coin would grade much higher than 60 without the scratch. With the scratch, on a details grade, 60 is the highest you can go. ANACS is basically saying this is an uncirculated coin with a scratch on it. The tough part is coming up with a value for such a coin. The value is ultimately determined by whatever someone is willing to pay. Remember that the TPG's are also guaranteeing their grades for future transactions of that coin in most cases. This is a BEAUTIFUL coin in any case. Great acquisition even at 740.

The problem is you can barely see the scratch without magnification. Its for sure an ms-63 or better coin. the only hit is on the reverse tail feathers. the fields are flawless accept the scratch. I did not even notice the scratch until I took a picture of the coin with my loupe and posted it up here. I was like whats that
