Shed some light on this subject. I could finish mt Cetified Type Set, the 7070 if I would only give in and purchase certified NGC slabs that have detals with the grade. I'm worried about the investment portion of the purchase. I want to get out what I put in.
Any advise on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a different perspective.

Any coin with a details grade on the slab label will have some sort of problem and of course, not all problems are created equally. A coin with a hole in it would be worth much less than a coin that only had a light wiping decades ago which might only be worth 10-20% less than a non-problem coin. If you can find details grade coins where you have to really look hard to find the problem, then that would be much better value-wise than an ugly damaged coin that might be next to impossible to resell.

Liquidity is never a problem, since the invention of the ebay 99c no reserve auction.... If you need to have problem coins, always strive for the cheapest price possible as they are the hardest type of coins to liquidate if you set them at a fixed price. But there will almost always be a buyer for problem coins as long as the price is right and the rarity of the coin is worth it. I doubt anyone would buy a common date Walker that has been heavily scratched when they could get a much nicer one for a cheap price.

I also agree with Biokemist.

Finally found some numismatists with rock solid advice on ngc detail coins. I bought a 1955D/D 7 years ago from a magazine. Paid 1600.00, 6mos. ago magazine orig. dealer offered to buy it back at 1600.00 my 7 year old purchase price. Kept it. First mistake! Secondly had it slabbed by Segs to save money. Came back MS62 improperly cleaned. Dropped off collecting for about 5years, now back at in earnest. Took it to coin show, after I had it reholdered by NGC, (came back detail AU Details improperly cleaned). Dealer asked if I was interested in selling it, I asked what he would pay he said 1200.00dollars on the spot. I kept it and it is my only detail slabbed coin in my registry set. I have all other key semikey and other coins graded by ngc/pcgs. Don't know if I should attempt to sell it to a dealer, or ebay auction. Have never sold anything on ebay, however have dealt with dealers, multiple times... Hoping for any feedback. It is a beautiful coin, need magnification to see the old slight rub marks, very faint, great almost red color. Thanks Flying Ace....
