I bought my wife some world coins in a little album today and it had Australian 1991 1˘ and 2˘ coins in it. She was asking me what type of animals were on them and told her I had no clue but that I know who would and would ask them. Any help would be appreciated.

The 1 cent coin I think is a possum but I'm not 100% on that, however the 2c is a Frill-Neck Lizard.

Frill-neck lizard, those things are cool. Seen them on television lots of times but just never knew the name. The other is a possum, nice, she will be happy. She really loves world coins and I think the reason is there is so much to look at whereas ours are pretty much the same year after year. Except for the quarters (and these don't really have the appeal they used to in my opinion) and now the nickels (but I think that ship sailed too). Hope that will change in the future. Thanks you all, I appreciate the help.

The possum on the 1 cent piece is a Feather-tail Glider.

Nice, thanks for the link yass. Going to show her these when she gets home.

Another question while it is fresh, are these considered decimal or pre-decimal. How can you tell the difference?

Decimal. All Australian coins 1966 or later are decimal. FYI the 1c and 2c coins you have are no longer produced and out of circulation.

I still need both these coins to finish my 1c & 2c collections and you just pick them up like that. You just got to be lucky. Maybe others can confirm this, but I think these two coins were also limited to mint sets only. They were not circulated coins.

Here are some pictures. One is of the little album they all came in and the other pic is a closeup of the 2 pennies. They are nice and toned.

Sorry if they are a little blurry. These are scanner pics.

I think our winning bid on the album was $5.
