Here is the statement I need explained to me ?

Rick

Rick, that's the extremely rare error 1895-S+O Morgan that actually was minted in New Orleans. I believe it has a known population of two and the first came out of the Eliasburg Collection, is currently owned by Joshua Gonagecha of Toledo (the Jeep millionaire) who bought it in the Feb 1997 B&M auction for $2.7 million. The whereabouts of the second 1895-S+O are currently unknown, has been shrouded in mystery since 1951 when a Mrs. Tredlitle filched it from her husband's collection, then promptly disappeared. I thought everyone knew that. [:p][:p][:p]

Actually, I thought it was from Ben Franklin, but it's correctly attributed to Englishman Thomas Tusser (1524-1580). A couple quotes from Franklin pertinent to ebay:

"Those that won't be counseled can't be helped." and
"Wise men don't need advice. Fools won't take it."

Fred

I would have put money that it was Barnum.
Thanks for the correction.

BTW, I heard this was from Franklin also but I am not sure on it.
"The sum of intelligent people in the world is constant. Unfortunately, the population is growing."

Wise Sayings From Ben Franklin
- Necessity never made a good bargain
- Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead
- Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise
- The worst wheel of a cart makes the most noise
- Keep your eyes wide open before marriage; half-shut afterward
- Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other
- When the well's dry, we know the use of the water
- Little strokes fell great oaks
- Fish and visitors stink after three days
- Well done is better than well said
- What you seem to be, be really
- There are more old drunkards than old doctors
- Love your neighbor, yet don't pull down your hedge
- The discontented man finds no easy chair
- He that speaks much is much mistaken
- Silence is not always a sign of wisdom but babbling is ever a folly
- There was never a good war or a bad peace

Quotes from PT Barnum
Money is a terrible master but an excellent servant.

There's a sucker born every minute.

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

The Old saying: A Fool and His Money Are Soon Parted is just an old proverb and was never really stated as who said it

I've gotten a little bit into the etymology of words, phrases, and songs. Many, if not most popular sayings (and songs) have their origins in antiquity. I would guess very few of Ben's nor Abe's sayings were completely original with them. Last summer, I did a little research into the song Two Little Boys sung by Rolf Harris, Kenny Rogers, several other 1970s singers, and more recently by a rock group. I traced the song back to the US Civil War during which many of the popular songs of the period could, in turn, be traced back even further to English and Irish folk songs and lore. (The popular 60s folk song Ballad of Barbara Allen can be traced back at least to the 1300s [despite what Wikipedia says].) Original thought isn't necessarily original.

Did you all look at the bid history? I don't get it. I did notice that the buyer seems to purchase all New Orleans Morgans. She has some other very strange, no rhymn or reasons to her purchases! More money that cents! Sorry, couldn't help myself! (Not too original either)! ;-0

Deb, she appears to be the type person who gets it into her head that she has to win at any cost. If she had wanted to spend less money, she would have sniped the auction and obtained the Morgan (and other coins and items) at lower cost. She's a seller's fantasy come true with money to burn. No cents is a good description.
