Sad thing is that there were 33 bids on it, and it sold for $5,100.

If I had that much money, I'd at least go to a coin dealer instead of ebay.

Maybe they will be lucky enough for the coin to be authentic.

Well thats a chance you take with any coin on ebay. There are crooks on ebay trying to get ahead.

Might be just the usual weak strike typical of New Orleans (and especially 1895-S Morgans), but it appears circulated and the probabilities are that it is, in fact circulated.

$5100 will be a mighty expensive lesson when the winner shows it to a dealer, a knowledgeable Morgan collector, or tries to sell it. Shouldn't have bought it in the first place: the warning signs were all there, especially the seller's terrible feedback numbers, private they might be.

And nobody with an IQ over 25 slabs a highly valuable coin in a last-rate slabbing company like HCGS.

Yet another notch carved into the gun handle of Franklin, Darwin, and Barnum. Somehow, I can't quite reach out to the sucker-victim. Some people deserve to be separated from their money.

We have a lot of sucker sayings in the US, possibly because we have so many suckers. Many or most of them may be found on ebay.

I think the better quote is from PT Barnum

"A fool and his money are soon parted."

I'm surprised the 12 negative feedback in the last month, coupled with Private Feedback didn't deter the bidders...

Actually, I thought it was from Ben Franklin, but it's correctly attributed to Englishman Thomas Tusser (1524-1580). A couple quotes from Franklin pertinent to ebay:

"Those that won't be counseled can't be helped." and
"Wise men don't need advice. Fools won't take it."
