Hello,

I have attached two scans of the same coin trying to also provide you with the degree of rotation of the reverse with respect to the obverse.

I would like to have some opinions regarding the following statements:

1) Does this coin appear to be authentic?

2) If not, what features support this conclusion?

3) What grade does this coin have?

4) Does the reverse side's features have the correct location in comparison to a photo of a known example of a same coin? If not, do slight variations exist considering the fact of the existence of a rotated die.

5) It appears that some of the stars have some lines while others do not. Is this normal?

6) How much does the roughened area of the top 1/4 of the obverse side lower the overall grade by?

7) If permitted, please provide an estimate of what this coin should be worth financially factoring in the die rotation.

8) If permitted, please provide an estimate of what this coin should be worth financially without factoring in the die rotation.

Please note that the shadow under the nose area on the obverse is actually just a result of the scanner that I used to scan this coin. The coin itself does not appear to have this shadow effect.

Thank you,

It appears authentic but somewhat corroded from having spent time in the ground. Worst at the top of the obverse, but visible all over the coin. As such, it would not grade at a TPG. The reverse is rotated, but not sufficiently to have any bearing on the overall value of the coin.

The lack of lines in some of the stars is not unusual for these coins.

Judging from the strong details, this coin circulated very little before retiring to the Dirt Hotel. That's a shame - the corrosion drops the value of what would easily be a $200+ coin by more than half.

Looks authentic with AU details and as SuperDave noted, corroded. Die rotation is very commonly found on 19th century U.S. coinage and rarely adds value.

In the condition it's in I'd value it around $30-$40.

Due to high eye appeal and only *light* porousity, I could see people paying as much as $80 for it on ebay. Easily.
