Pardon my ignorance but is the mint grease just used to lubricate the presses?

Lubricate the presses, prevent rust on the dies, and the planchets are lightly oiled as well to prevent sticking in the feed tubes and other parts of the feed mechanisms.

Cool find! I think this is the first time I have seen "original mint grease" on a coin.

Sweet find... but are you sure mint grease would still be there after 40 years, and its not... just grease?

Perhaps the bust on the coin behind it sneezed.
If that is the original grease, that is a cool find.

Quote: Sweet find... but are you sure mint grease would still be there after 40 years, and its not... just grease? Well, obviously I cannot be 100% certain. It could have come from bank counting/rolling machines used to make the OBW. It's just my theory....but I think it's a good one.
