A while back I bought 2 proof mint envelopes of the same year from 2 different dealers (both complete with CoA). The problem with one of them is that on the $1 coin, the envelope had been stored in such a way that the weight of this big honker broke the plastic "seal-pocket" in which it is stored purely from its weight. I've since mixed them up so I have no intention of returning the item.

My question is how much will this affect the value in the future? I'm guessing that quite a bit, but it's not totally worthless. Granted, the dollar coin is no longer in "mint-state". I think I should leave it untouched, seeing as cutting out the dollar would just devalue the others. I don't want to glue the seal back up. Mini-clamps?

This thread/post is both a question as to what to do with this mint-set, and also a caution to others to lay the envelope flat and not vertical. Now that I think about it, for this reason alone I know which dealer may have caused this prolonged awkward positioning of coins in the plastic seal.

Unless your set contains some nice cameo or exceptionaly high grade coins,it is now worth bullion value. Not much premium above bullion value for average '63-'67 sets anyways.

actually you can quite often get more for the coins sold individually versus a set especially for the more common dates

Why would that be, guppie? Aren't sets more desirable as a whole in the highest grade possible?

I bought them for future resale (down the loooong road) but also because they are easy to obtain for the price. They're quite beautiful coins.

Silver PL sets are worth melt value plus a couple bucks. The only way to get more
for the coins is to have exceptionally high grade or deep cameo coins certified. I
think that's exactly what DBM was saying, and he's right (this assumes the 1963
through 1967 sets, which are generally traded on melt value...older sets will carry
more premiums). The mint pumped out millions of these sets in the mid 60's, and
it's likely they will not see any major numismatic premium in out lifetimes.
