My wife received these in change at the Vets office the other day
when she took our German Shepard in.
One has the regular finish I have seen on circulation Dollar Coins
and one has a satin finish. Has anyone else found these in circulation.
Or are they all different finishes. I do not follow the series closely
enough to know.

Terry

Yes I have seen these, and they look beyond satin-almost burnished. When you get them, look for a large die marker, raised, at about 10 'oclock on the obverse field between the rim and portrait. If you find that marker, then look on the incuse. You may find some deep die gouges that form lines that cross all the way around the incuse. I will post some of these when I get to it today or this weekend. There is an appreciable difference between these and even the satin mint set, as these are more textured, and very different to look at. Before Buchanan I collected satin uncirculated, satin from mint sets, and regular uncirculated. Now it seems there is a DEEP SATIN. That's the way I describe it. The die marker and die incuse gouges are an unexpected bonus. Dont know how the die gouges are made, I will let the pros figure that. These are in the first strike rolls.

Legend,
Thank You for your response, and the information.
You are right it almost looks like it is burnished.
I see something at the 10:00 position and also on his chin
there is a raised peice of metal kind of like a die chip.
I will wait for your photos, before I say they are the
same raised area at 10:00 on the obverse.
Again Thank You

Terry

A nice peaceful weekend with the coins

I took some closeup shots of the differences in the finish
of these two coins. I thought it might help. Might have to put this one in the mail to Mike Diamond or Ken Potter. There are definite differences in these coins.
Getting interesting.
