Hi All,

About 10-15 years ago, my grandmother gave me a box of coins which I have had tucked away for a while now. I thought I'd take photos and upload them here. I know most are probably not worth much, but I do wonder if there are any in there that may be worth a few bob. I'm not looking to sell, but I am curious. I have a few coins which are very foreign so I can't even tell which country they are from (arabic text).

Would be great if you experts could have a look at some of the pics and point out any coins in the collection you think are worth more than £10 if any.

I grouped the coins together into sets and named them appropriately. Finally, I took front and back photos of all of them.

All 38 images are in this gallery:

Thanks in advance for your help.

I certainly don't have anywhere near the kind of time it would take to identify all of these, but at a glance I can tell you that a few of your Swiss coins (Helvetica) are valuable for their silver content. Not a lot else jumped out at me, but as I said, I just peeked.
Unfortunately, dealers don't really want to sit and go through everything with you unless you are planning on selling them, even then they'll usually go a bit low when offering a price. It's just simply VERY HARD to get close to book value for lower-end common world coins, for dealers and collectors alike, unless they happen to have some inherent metal worth.
Your best bet would probably be to go find a Krause world coin catalog (online, bookstores, libraries) and do a bit of research. Even an older edition of the Krause books will give you a good idea of relative value.

Good luck!

These are the coins that I see when I buy foreign coins by the pound. Most have been demonetized, although the Swiss coins have a bit more value, as do the older Syrian and Palestinian coins. Frankly, the entire collection would not approach more than a couple of pounds in value, although some of the images were too dark for me to identify.

I would suggest that you do what was suggested in the post above. Buy a guide to world coins, sit down, go through it, and learn about each coin and maybe something about each country (or non-country, in the case of Palestine). There's the real value in this collection - the education you'd receive about world coins.

38- Egypt, 36- Turkey or Egypt for the 2 on the left, and Libya top right, Iraq bottom right 34,32- Turkey
The Egyptian ones ar worth a few dollars apiece as they appear in nice condition.
