What's Wrong With Australian Proof Coins?

I have never liked the quality of Aussie proof coins. The problem, to my eye, is in the excessive amount of sand blasting to the legends and images to produce the cameo effect. A great deal of the detail of the imagery is obliterated.

The British Royal Mint seems to always get this aspect of the proof minting process right. I have a 1937 George V1 gold proof coin, and the images are sand blasted with a much finer grit, and so leave all of the original detail of the design behind.

I have to admit I am not a fan of any proof coin with the cameo effect, Aussie or not. I prefer my coins to look as though they were intended for circulation. As such, I am a big fan of Aussie pre-decimal proofs, especially shillings.

I'm still not sure about the coloured proof coins. I suppose only time will tell. Maybe they will be popular with the younger folk in 50 years or so.

I disagree about quality of Australian proof coin they are world class
They are overpriced and way too many strick is my only beef
