I have seen many great photos of silver, or silver in color coins, with black as the backdrop color. So what is the best for coins such as cents? I know white makes the coin stand out, but doesn't the light source reflect back up to the camera when using white?

Black is the best color for an image's background for all coins in my opinion.

I use black for some and white for others, but photograph everything on a soft dark pad. Then I place cutouts of the coin on whichever background I chose.

White, black, and gray. Experiment with these. You will see that if you have a really dark coin, such as toned copper, that white makes the coin look contrastingly dark, and black makes the coin look lighter.

Black seems to be best for coins with luster imo.

I really like black for copper coins. I like the looks of it both with red copper and brown copper.
