Hello Everyone,
I'm a disabled vet and I like detecting.
I need help fine tuning my DFX. I use all of the factory pre-sets, but I don't find much except pennies, dimes... I generally try to work beaches (without success) and Fair Grounds, Old Schools.
Need help on the beaches... what's the best settings?
Do I need a larger coil? I don't have much experience in getting out as much as I like

Thanks Tim!
I'll give it a try. Someone sent me an email with fine tuning the DFX and my wife deleted the email. I'll let you know.
BTW, I like your signature using Jefferson's words.

Tim,
I do all of those things. I do have a protective cover (came with the unit) over the coil. I actually lay the coil on the ground and sweep from left shoulder to right shoulder and then take a step... always sweeping. I do the ground balancing as stated in the book.
I get hits that bounce between a nickel and dime... If I hit a Quarter, it usually comes up a quarter. The depth is sometimes crazy too. It tells me something is 8 inches down... sometimes 12 inches... I find that hard to believe. I usually find stuff at 2-3 inches and no more than 5 inches.
Now on the beach, I get a lot of tabs and junk. I haven't found anything worth a bean yet.

Tim Shrouds link is great for everyone, even someone like myself, having been doing this for 25 years. Pull tabs are a detectorists worst nightmare, but you may have to dig 100 or 200 pull tabs until you find that first gold ring, but then it makes it all wothwhile. My first machine being a Compass.

I have a dxf and purchased a few books that deal with a lot of tuning issues. I'll dig around and see if I can jot down a few beach tunings for you. The dxfonly link listed above is excellent. If I remember there are tons of programmes listed there. Gimme a day and I'll look around. Clorox

Try the link in my sigline "treasurequest" , you will find all the help you need for the DFX there. Just scroll down to the whites heading, click on your detector and see what you you find, the people on treasurequest are a great bunch people with a ton of experiance and knowledge.
I use the older whites spectrum the DFX is a newer version and is a great machine and is capable of alot more than pennies and dimes.
