I am trying to establish if these are fake or not, my mother got them from her grandfather over 30 years ago in vietnam

I have no knowledge on coins and counterfeiting, were counterfeits in circluation back then?

p.s yes they are not in good condition, have been scrubbed a lot. I guess the value to be its intrinsic silver content i.e. 27g x 0.9?

They both make very satisfying long pinging noise when struck, though both have a slight different sound

Both coins are real and are from present day Viet Nam. They have been very harshly cleaned so there value is limited to about $10 each.

Looks like they cleaned them with a wire brush.

Was gonna say the same thing. Someone cleaned those like the world was ending! I'm not an authenticity expert but if I had a pawn shop I'd turn them down in a flash. They look like modern arcade tokens made from cupronickel. Even if they are silver, they are far from collectible in that shape.

I have no idea of those coins but looks like others do so not to good news. Still I think they look nice. For sure a keepsake of from a relative.

They just look too "good" to be from 1906. The reflectiveness just isn't there for silver, so it could just be your camera. It looks "washed" to appear old but it's a bad try.

I don't have proper scales, may try the kitchen ones which aren't accurate. To be honest the coins were in a similar conditon to the above but I asked my mother to get them out and she wire brushed them thinking to get the stains out :s

Not bothered about selling them, I just wanted to know if they were real or not, will weigh them later and report back
