I just got a set of the Kuwait Commemorative Coins and was wondering what the average pricing should be for each coin? Particularly the Silver coin set issued by the Central Bank of Kuwait.

Are you sure they're authentic? When I was there in 2003 and 2004 I asked if they had silver or gold coins and was told by a banker that it was illegal to sell Kuwaiti coins in precious metals.

What are the coins? A picture would be great or, at list, dates and the denominations.

You might be able to find a scanner. No, actually I still remember how hard it was to get anything at Udairi. I'm surprised they let you go into the city. It was "Verboten" when I was there. Except for us FOs. (Fiduciary Officers)

I do see the pictures and the listing on the CBK site, and I find it strange that Krause does not mention the silver issues. Nor it has a comprehensive list of commemoratives.

Barbacide, have you found these in Kuwait or just ebay? (I just checked out the ones on ebay) I looked at several banks in Kuwait for any silver or gold coins and was told they didn't exist. All the gold and silver coins on ebay are offered by sellers not affiliated with Kuwait. The circulated coins are quite accessible where ever you go in Kuwait. I'd really do diligence prior to purchasing Kuwaiti silver or gold coins from China or Austria.

If all you want is their circulated coins, PM me and I send you several sets FREE, one Vet to another. I guess you can have too many pictures of a Dhow.

Great, I went into that bank and was told they did not exist because they were illegal to own in Kuwait. I was there, in the city on the Fourth Ring (I think it was the 4Th) and at the International Airport, and just in from the Shquah Mall. Two things in Kuwait City that you can always find; unlicensed copies and more unlicensed copies. They even misrepresent their gold. They'll tell you comes from some little guy in the rear of the store, but most of it comes from Bahrain and Italy. I have some of the nicest looking 22K gold necklaces and bracelets (my wife hated them) I've ever seen. (Incidentally they turned out to be 18K Italian wire rope with a hallmark so small you need a microscope to see it.)

Are you sure these are the authentic articles? Caveat Emptor!

I have found up here in Kuwait. I saw the ones on ebay and I guess that would be the going market. I bought just a few in the beginning before heading off to Iraq. I went home on leave and took them to my local coin guru. He thinks they are real. The ones I have are in the the original packaging with the little brochure that comes in the box. The ebay seller from Canada seems to be the one with the most coins. His silver set was $288. Of course, no one has bought it. I also got the original brochure from the bank. Or should I say a very well printed fake with a Kuwaiti Bank stamp from 2008. I paid around $40 a piece for the 33.625 gram silver commemoratives and $80ish for the 72.50 gram ones. It all depends on what kind of deal I make. The gold is nice but expensive. Nice looking proof coin. Thanks for the help.

Hello there
I'm from Kuwait and currently doing my PhD in Canada
Kuwait has issued 2 commemorative set coins : silver and gold in two different dates : 1987 (scarce) and 2008
they are legal production of Kuwait central bank.
Central bank of Kuwait has no more of 1987 (either silver or gold) and ran out of 2008 gold sets.
so what you are talking about is authentic issue of Central bank as commemorative issue, usually a certificate or information card.
many gold commemorative coins are considered scarce or rare.
the silver is still common except for few like 1987
I sold one set last month for 2200 USD

hope that helped.

P.S.: Kuwait central bank has a booklet that shows all issues they have made up to now

Thanks, albaydaq, for clearing this up.
The official information on the matter is too confusing and self-contradicting.
And welcome to the forum!
