I have a 1962 Mint set and I am thinking about taking the coins out and selling them individually instead of selling the mint set as a whole.

Does it make sense to sell each coin individually or would it be better to sell the mint set?

Do you want to sell it fast (the whole set at once) or for the maximum price (individually)?

Typically, mint and proof sets are worth less than the sum of their parts. You may find more people that want one of the five coins than people that want all five coins.

Search for past mint set sales on ebay. Then search for past sales for each individual coin. This should help you with the decision.

Yes you can get more money selling them individually, but you also have to do a lot more work to get that extra money. More listings, probably more time to get them sold, more packaging , if you are mailing them probably more trips to the post office, if you are selling them on ebay more fees than if you just sold the set etc. hat a lot of people don't seem to realize is the higher prices they see listed for individual coins over the total for the set represents the additional dealer market to cover the hassle of selling the coins individually. The coins aren't really worth more, but the dealer needs to GET more to make up for all the extra time and effort.

And if you are thinking you'll sell them all to one dealer at the higher prices, think again. Why would he pay more for an already broken up set when he could buy a set and break it up himself? No in order to get the higher prices you have to sell them to different people. Most likely the only people who will make anything will be the post office.
