Hi found a medal today. Sorry I can't put up a photo yet.

27mm diameter
2mm thick
Silver colour

Side 1:
Says "Captain James Cook 1728 - 1779"
Picture is of Cook with small sailing ship on the right with 2 natives with spears below it. On the left is the Australian east coast including tassie.

Side 2:
Pic of Australia with words" Australia 200 years A bicentennial medal collection" inside it with a wattle flower in the great australian bite with the leaves around the east and west coasts.

Any idea what it is, approximate mintages and what it could be worth?

Thanks

Not a "token", but a "medal". They were issued in 1988 as a collectable series of medals, obtainable from Coles supermarkets and such like. I bought two whole sets from there at the time. I put one set in the folder you could also buy from Coles (and which this ebay seller also has) and the other set I kept sealed up in the little cellophane packets the medals were sold in.

The medals were struck in chrome-plated steel, and the chrome plating is very flimsy, especially on the edge. The net result is these pieces rust on the rims very easily. The set in my folder is happily turning to rust. The set in the cellophane packets is, as far as I can tell, keeping better for the most part.
