That's a contest held by the public to petition the government. I don't know how redesigning the currency would boost the economy.

I hope they're not considering any of those. One things for sure, Obama's face definately won't end up on any denomination bill.

I really only kind of like one of those top 15 picks from the "contest". Most are just flat out horrible. I do feel they need to redesign the $1 to have it match the appearance of the current look, though. Some argue there should be size differential to help the blind, but changing the size of notes would be horrible. Don't fix what ain't broke.

I like the vertical idea. The Mexican $200 2009 bill is like that and it's very elegant. However, the idea behind green being "good" and changing the way people see or handle the new bills will change the trust that's put into the dollar bill. There's a strong psychological impact on people when they see green paper.
My opinion, is they should print money on hemp. It lasts longer, pure and simple, and there's quite a monopoly in the U.S. on hemp, what with prohibition.
Lol about helping the blind. They could just indent the stupid paper with Braille. How simple is that, really! I feel that smaller denominations should be smaller than a larger sized $100 note.
Obama shouldn't grace the world with his face on the one dollar bill. The eagle and astronaut are great ideas. FDR shouldn't really be on money, IMO. Might as well throw in Nixon, Wilson, and King George the Second. :P

If those designs get picked and are actually made into U.S currency I'll bet taking my $1 bills to the bank to exchange for Sac Dollars or something.

I saw the report and boy o boy are those notes ugly. Luckily it's just a contest. And yes the Mexican Bicentennial 200 Pesos and also the Centennial 100 Pesos are NICE!

I would object to redesigning the bills unless they're trying to make them harder to counterfeit or make them more durable. Making them out of some sort of polymer like other countries have done would be an improvement.
Some of those designs they have on their website are nothing less than awful. They look like cheap advertisements. Having a bill with Hollywood on it is a bad idea, a lot of people think the entertainment culture is part of what is wrong with America today. And putting recent or current presidents will just be divisive.
New polymer notes with native American tribes, bald eagles, or lady liberty would be okay with me. And no more presidents, dead or alive.

They already did redesign the US $1, way back in 2000. The new one looks like this: You were supposed to throw away your silly paper $1 notes and start using these instead. Didn't they tell you? Your government will never approve redesigning a banknote it's trying to phase out.

Good point Sap. Neither the coin or the paper is worth much anymore other than making change for the new standard which is the $20 note. The coins are sometimes useful in vending machines I've heard, but I think they are 'both' on the way out. I'll be looking for the $5 and $10 coins before much more time passes.

Making the currency vertical is not going to boost the economy. But if our currency does change, wouldnt you like to be the one to change it, be in the history books. Or go down in infamy! lol

Quote: Making the currency vertical is not going to boost the economy I suppose that depends on your version of what a boosted economy looks like. the streets in my area look really good but I don't think the 11.9% unemployment rate was affected. I'm guessing as the government hands out these pieces of currency (taken from my bank account) the roads would get used and thus need to be redone again - I guess printing these would boost the economy... LOL
