I use it a lot as well. It gives me a pretty good idea of what I should be expecting to pay for coins I need to fill my albums.

Grey sheet? I've never heard of that, could you link me to it or explain? Thank you.

dzrick, "Greysheet" is a reference to the Coin Dealer Newsletter. It is nicknamed "greysheet" due to the color of the paper it is printed on. Here's a link to their website: http://www.greysheet.com/

Numismedia is a great free guide for "Retail" pricing. Just don't expect to sell your coins for the prices listed because you usually won't get that much.

Always try to remember that as a rule, Numismedia, The Grey Sheet, the PCGS web site price guides, etc are all GUIDES. In almost all instances those are the highest prices coins should or could be worth. As already noted here do not expect to sell coins based on any of those stated prices unless your a dealer and even then, not an exact selling price either. All such coin GUIDES are similar to a price on the window of a car at a used car lot. And sometimes just as funny.

Thanks guys, I figured it would be similar to the old car guides. Those prices would only be for slabbed and graded coins anyway, correct? But still a bit high?

The actual price at any given time is a combination of how motivated the seller and buyer are. One can easily value their collection well above retail if they wanted to. That is just an indication of how much they will take to part with their treasures. Of course, desperation can easily lower that value.

And at least with a coin dealer you don't have to hear that famous statement, "I'll have to check with the manager to see if I can let you have that car for that price"

He always has to check with dad before making any deals. However, I suspect that one day he will be ready to make those calls on his own.

No, they are actually meant for raw coins if I remember correctly. Numismedia is sometimes on the high side, the Greysheet is considered thw standard when it comes to price guides.
