Krausse KM 523,mintage 231000,key date in series, valued in 5th edition VF= 40$ but...I tried to find this coin in few auction archives and search came out with nothing so I'm not sure Krausses valuation is correct.

The German magazine money trend says 60 euro in VF in its latest edition.
The key to the series is 1896 with a mintage of 46 000

Grosser Deutscher munzkatalog is a catalog I use and is pretty good on evaluations.

I'd grade it at AU-50, looks like it may have been cleaned at some point. $40 is average price for these coins in this condition here in the US.

This coin was sold for 90$.I think it's not better than yours and is far more common date.Krause catalog prices does not do justice for German coins
