Anyone know the vintage of this token? I think it is copper. It measures 20.4mm from point to point and weighs 2.71 grams. It is listed on Richard's Token Datebase as K-453.

I must admit I do not know, but I would be intrigued if it were from the Gold Rush Era, which from what I understand, started at a place called Suttors Mill, not far from SF.

Australia had many bronze and copper trade tokens from it's own Gold Rush times, in the middle of the 19th Century.

Have it listed on ebay starting at $0.99. I'll see if I can get more info on from the buyer.

The blackened, carbonized crust makes me think of fire. You know, Eddy st. was consumed by the fire that followed the 1906 quake. If that token is indeed blackened by fire, that may narrow the time period.

Update: I did some digging, and the address "38 Eddy st." no longer exists. Instead, the Hallidie building and plaza is there, which was built in 1917. So it's getting more likely that Castle Inn is from before the 1906 quake/fire.
