28 Sept, 2010....The US Mint has announced that mintage of the 2010 Proof fifty dollar buffalo has ceased. They are out of blanks, and will produce no additional Buffalo Fifty Dollar Proofs. Final mintage, as yet to be determined, appears to be in the 30,000 to 35,000 total piece range. ebay has sellers with items in stock as of 12:50 Eastern Standard Time. Three pages of sellers, a handful of BIN sellers, some first strikes, also sellers with three to ten lots for sale. Good luck to all of us, Holy Moly.

I got 2 of the 06's when they came out.......none since then.......but I've seen '07's, '08's & '09 Proofs going for A LOT OF MONEY in coin mags..& Eagles too....Proof and/or Uncirc's...graded and ungraded...these 2010's will surpass those prices big time, I'm sure, if there is indeed a super low mintage. Sure wish I were rich........

These are still available on the Mint's website at $1,560 each. Don't pay more than that buying elsewhere.

I have a quick question. One the Mints website they say that they temporarily suspended the American Eagle gold coins and that they didn't even make any in 2009.... but I see people selling them on ebay and other websites. So did the Mint only sell them to businesses or what?

No Proof Gold Eagles were struck in 2009 so no genuine 2009 GAE proofs exist. Any for sale would be either fakes or re-strikes by private individuals. If you see 2009 Proof Gold American Eagles for sale, please post a link.

Quote: I got 2 of the 06's when they came out I bought two of each year through 2010. Just ordered two, luckily I saw this thread as I forgot all about them. Back in 2006 I was only going to order one, but changed my mind & made it two. Glad I did looking back on it.

When you guys/gals are ordering these proof coins at $1,560.00 a piece. I'm assuming you are doing it to add to your private collections? Or is it with the hopes that gold will go a lot higher? Or is it both?
What do you do with the proof coins once in your hands? Do you have them graded? Or keep and display in the commemorative boxes they come with?

I keep them in the OGP myself. I also usually get 1 each year they are avail;able since they started minting them and have bought 2 or more of them so if Gold goes up I will sell the extra and still keep one myself. The first one I purchased I think was like $900.00, I bought 2 of them and sold the extra for $1400.00 so that means I have $400.00 in the one in my collection

They also 2009 Bullion Gold American Eagles just no proofs, maybe thats what you are seeing for sale

One interesting thing about the Proof Gold Eagles and retirement plans. Sometimes there is a requirement that you have original government packaging, including the plastic holders and Authenticity data for it to be used in an IRA. So keep that packaging when you do get an item graded. Oh, and my Proof Buffalo and Eagles....well I get them mailed to my home at 49773A Westershire Rd in Poughkeepsie New York, and I proudly display my collection on the wall facing our always opened Bay window, so passersby can see them from the road. YUK YUK. YIAWTA!!
