I measure the thickness of my Double Eagle gold Coin (1924) and I got ~2.5 mm. Is that number reasonable for that kind of coin?

Thanks

You should be more concerned with the weight and diameter then the thickness.
A St Gaudens $20 a.k.a. "double eagle" should weigh 33.40 grams and have a diameter of 34.00 mm.
Hope this helps

I think the thickness is supposed to be around 2 mm so your 2.5 is half a mm off. The exact weight should be 33.436 grams(1.075 troy ounces)with a diameter of 34 millimeters

If the weight and diameter are correct but the thickness is 2.5 mm, does it mean that this coin is not original?

This is a tough call without pictures. The thickness of 2.5mm, if measured at the rim, is close. The fields are where the thickness should be closer to 2.00mm. Can you post a pic? The weight and diameter being correct is a very good sign.

This is the actual specification of my coin :
Weight: ~3.47 gram
diameter: 34.05 mm
thickness: ~2.5 mm

Here you can see the pictures:
Please note that the black spots appears as a result of distortion that was caused by my camera:

Please give me your opinion regarding the question if this is original

Sorry, I had a mistake in my last message: the weight is ~33.47mm (of course) and not 3.47

You have a genuine coin. There should be edge lettering and stars on the rim too. It looks to be a high AU or low MS piece that I would value around $1500USD.

I obtained an MS60 1924s Double Eagle many years ago when the gold price was around $350. I really had no reason for buying it at the time, except that I have always liked the design. I am still very pleased with it. I normally collect ancients.
