I have twenty 1922 , and twenty 1923 Silver Dollars. They are in Uncirculated condition and encased in a plastic NUMIS products vial. I would like to possibly sell these, but am a novice at the coin collecting arena. Any suggestions on price value, grading, how to sell, and just general information on these coins would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the input.

Hi Andy!

You have what are known as Peace dollars. 1922 and 1923 are both very common years even in uncirculated grades.

If you go onto ebay and search completed listings for "roll uncirculated Peace dollars" or something similar, it will give you a general idea of what a roll (20) of common uncirculated Peace dollars are worth. Keep in mind if you take them to a dealer, you will not get the full amount of what they are worth since the dealer has to leave room for a profit.

As far as grading goes, these two dates start to have substantial premiums in grades of MS65 and above. You can go to this website to give you an idea of what an MS65 Peace dollar looks like:

Thanks for the information. I went to the PCGS website and most of the coins look like they fall into the MS64-66 range. How does one go about getting an official rating for a coin?

You have to submit them to one of the good grading services NGC, PCGS, ANACS, IGC these are some of the good places however you usually have to belong to the ANA to send these in maybe not all the places will let someone else jump in here. The Red Book will give you a rough idea of the coin value it only cost around $15.00.

It will cost you at the least $10.00 and up per coin to have them graded.

You could send them to a TPG (Third Party Grader) but to me the cost and work involved would make cherrypicking the nice ones to submit would not make it worth your time. Grading is very subjective and if they do fall into your estimate of 64-66 then submitting them would be worth it, however there is a good chance the coins are in the lower MS range. If looking to sell, I'd just put them on ebay as BU rolls, although if you want to go the other route posting pictures of the coins would give you some estimates on grade and potential value.

I would hold onto them, we haven't reached the parabolic move in metals yet. If this is your only silver, just wait. You have almost 29 troy oz of Silver.

To what are you referring when you say the "parabolic move in metals." Thanks--Andy
