Nearly Fine, perhaps catalogues at 40 pounds in this condition.

Gothic Florins (2/-) replaced Half Crowns (2/6) in production between 1851 and 1874, when Half Crown production resumed. They were jointly produced between 1874 and 1887.

The Gothic Florin saw heavy use, and as a result, grades in EF or better, are scarcer than other denominations for the same period.

The Gothic Crown is considered by many as one of the most attractive coins ever made. Not many of these were produced, and so are out of reach price wise, for most collectors.

That is OK for me. The Gothic Florin is a really nice alternative to own if you can't afford a Gothic Crown.

Personally, I like dark coins, and this one is one of my favorite designs. I have one of these in stark blast white, and I consider yours to be very beautiful in comparison. I would keep it as is if it were mine.

If you lightened the patina a BIT, the coin would look brighter.

Considering it's value, I wouldn't do it. I think the contrast between to worn high points and the field would be lessened, and it would look like a coin that has been cleaned. I suspect that you may never be happy with it if you went down that track.

I'm saving for a Gothic Crown, but I may be old and grey before I can afford it!

To modern eyes, that coin has such an "official" look to it.
