so the weekend is here and I finally have a chance to hit some banks.
one of the things that I think about after a day where I only find $7 in loose halves from banks and after every teller says "i just gave the guy before you all my halves", is there must be a day that has more than others? I mean, I know banks have to ship their coin out, but I feel like there must be one day that is luckier than the others? but who am I kidding, its all luck.. either you got there before the next guy or you ARE the next guy..

Have you ever wondered if the pay day factor applies?

Yes, indeed. I have certainly scored well before, right place right time, and other times have heard the all too familiar "someone else was just in and took all my halves". Think it's mostly luck of the draw, but certainly have wondered the same question before. Historically I think have scored a little better on mid week days, but I did find $9 of 40% from $11.5 in loose halves today. ...so back to timing.

I think it is mostly luck. Luck with getting a teller that hasn't cherry picked already or before someone else asks for old odd coins. If you know the day when a potential good teller is then that is the day! My last good teller tray find was six Morgan and Peace dollars. As the teller was handing them to me another teller walked by and almost had a coronary seeing what the teller was handing me. The teller said something like "Oh, you want this funny money, it just came in this morning." The skill part was I knew that this bank had a least one teller that didn't cherry themselves and had a slight chance of a good finds. I now know the local banks that are a complete waste of time and usually only dump at them! Maine_Jim

Xmas season is approaching, so watch for people emptying out their jars to get that sweet present. In Canada we have Boxing Day, Dec 26, a day with massive sales.

I do not believe Saturday is a good day for roll searching because the vaults are generally closed and tellers are working at branches other than their own and don't have access to the teller trays of the normal weekday workers there.

i second bnacoin on this one. searched all saturday and heard the same thing at almost every bank: "yeah we have a couple rolls but it's in so-and-so's drawer and she's not in on weekends, etc. OR yeah we have a few but we can't open the vault, check back on monday"
