I have seen the definition as being.... digits in the same order.

Have also seen them described as being.... digits in opposite order.

Also, how many digits must they be? Two? Three?

I got a few straps of new ones and depending on the answer to these questions, I may have a few.

Im pretty sure bookends just start and end with the same serial numbers..... 54746354 would be and example of a bookend because it starts with 54 and ends with 54 ...... another one could be 12377123. Again, it starts and ends with 123 which is the definition used by most people I believe

same order.
I'm not a fan of bookends, personally. I don't see how there can be a lot of value in them. but, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I'm sure the minimum is 2 digits, but 3 is better! and 4 would be a repeater.
