I got this almost uncirculated British India 1/12 anna and was looking it under the magnifier wondering if this is a die issue/ Weak strike or damage. Notice the absence of 1/ in the "1/12"? Is this a documented die issue or a weak strike?
Welcome to the CCF, brokencompass! I believe this is an example of a weak strike; I've seen other 1/12 anna coins with the same characteristics as yours.
The problem with this coin was caused by simple physics. It was a problem with many of Edward VII coins - the raised portion of the King's head took away so much of the coin's volume (at a point opposite the denomination) that the failure to strike up fully is entirely predictable. Weak strikes are usually more overall in effect. This localized effect is a commonly seen defect.
This of a wheatie US cent - Lincoln's head often caused a weakness in the ONE of the denomination.
The grade of a coin can be MS without a full strike but ultimate desirability is usually based on a full strike.
