I have a 1983 US Mint proof set with what appears to be an error. The dime has been put in backwards. Has anybody else seen this?

interesting, but not an error worth anything....generally, packaging doesn't factor in value. There are rare exceptions (GSA CC Morgans, etc.), but someone either fat fingered it at the mint, or your case was cracked to remove the original dime for slabbing or some other reason and replaced incorrectly...

I wouldn't get too excited about it.

Interesting though...

On second thought, after checking my grey sheet, most likely what occured is that the set had a "no 's' dime" in it (worth $830 as a part of the set). The previous owner most likely had it slabbed and replaced the dime with a 's' dime and resold the set to you (now worth $6.50)...check and see if it looks the plastic case has been opened.

The alternative here is that YOUR DIME MIGHT NOT HAVE A 'S' ON IT, WHICH MEANS YOU COULD BE IN THE MONEY!

Let us know...

Thanks

Its not an coin error, but a packaging error. I never heard of proof sets in 1983, the dimes not have an S on them.
