Hello everyone!

Sorry if this has been brought up before!

I just received my 2nd Silver 1 oz Canadian Maple Leaf coin today and I noticed that it has very tiny vertical lines running on both sides of the coin, my only other maple leaf (1999) also has these lines. They are only noticeable if you look really closely because they are so small.

I have completed the 1 oz Mexican Libertad set & I am on the verge of completing my 1 oz American Silver Eagle set so I am moving on to Canada and I am wondering if this is normal on all the Canadian 1oz Bullion coins?

On the bullion strike it is Normal as they only polish the maple leaf logo. If you buy proof silver maple leaf you will not have those lines.

Thank you very much!

A couple other questions regarding the 1 oz Maple Leaf.

1. Are these technically considered a mirror strike or are they also satin finish like the American Silver Eagle & Mexican Libertad?

2. I am in the habit of giving all my newly purchased bullion coins a quick acetone soak and light wash in soapy water before inserting them into their holders to remove any unwanted particles, fingerprints or residue that previous owners unknowingly might have deposited on the coin, being that these do have a different finish on the leaf and portrait, are these in any way more delicate or susceptible to hairline scratches than other satin 1oz silver issues?

Thank you all for your input!

Dont soak or clean your bullion!! simply put them in holder as they are! if you like silver you must know that silver collectors like the way silver tone .

personaly I would never clean my Silver maple leaf collection even if you paid me to do it!

trust me you collection will worth more if its uncleaned .

I hear ya SilverMaple! Some of these people though, don't know how to handle their coins properly and the most depressing thing is to buy a coin and see a bunch of fingerprints all over it.

I think the "strike" is considered a bullion strike.

RealPeso,
a rinse with acetone should be all you need, soap residue is almost always left behind even after careful rinsing. The acetone will remove any surface dust or fresh fingerprints while also being completely harmless to the coin.

Good to know biokemist! I am going to try doing that from now on because I have thought about the possibility of the soap residue being left on the coin.
