Back up to $3.83 and climbing. Silver moving up nicely also. Gold up slightly but steady.

Nice.

Not ready to retire yet, but it still feels good. Just a little bit anyway.

Before 1982. They changed the mix mid 1982 so you'd have to weight the 82's to figure out which ones are copper. Or you could do the drop test where you get a known copper penny and a known zinc penny, drop each one separately then drop the 1982 to figure out if it's copper or zinc. A copper penny will have a ring to it while a zinc penny does not.

Kisnap is correct. I keep all the 82's regardless hoping to pick some small/large dates combos later on.

I've just started hoarding copper as well. I do about a box per week and each box typically yields around 25-30% pre 82's.

Unsheathed copper wire is much nicer to have. It's pure, for electrical work, it needs to be.

I'd be interested to hear what the consensus is. Do you think it's worth holding onto copper pennies? I mean, as of now it's illegal to melt them down. Wouldn't the penny have to be "retired" before the metal is fair game? Even then, would a substantial amount be worth hauling around?
