Hello, Just wondering if this is a LB or SB 1973 quarter. Its probably a SB, but its always better to check. I have attached an image of my coin (It looks wavy because it was scanned while in a 2x2. The top half looks OK.) Thanks Edited by Canadian-Banknotes 11/07/2010 6:25 pm

Easy way to tell difference If the last A of Regina points to a decibel it's a large bead or bust If it points between the decibels it's a small bead or bust

I think the large bust, the beads look like they sit almost touching the rim, and the small beads they sit farther away with an obvious gap between them and the rim. I haven't come across a large bust yet that I'm aware of as I didn't pay attention before knowing about the large and small ones. I do love those RCMP with the horses coins though. I call them Quarter horses

Looks like a small-bust variety. An easy way to tell is to put a 1974 quarter beside it & compare. The queen's hair & the overall relief is different.

The detail in the hair is the easiest way to tell, went through thousands of 73s, once bought 500 $ worth from a guy who saved them just because had no idea about coins 2000 quarters , nada Never found one in circulation, hard find.

The hair lines are very easy to separate- the scarce variety has smooth hair lines, while the regular variety for 1973 has strongly engraved lines, like you show in the picture..

It is small bust, I looked back at a post where two were put side by side, and the difference in the hair between the neck and the crown show that this coin is the small bust type. Sorry, its not the large bust.

i have seen a big bust, not in circulation. someone I know has one in a set of coins he purchased as a 1973 canadian coin set made for the mountie quarter. it has a blurb about the mountie quarter and the quarter is MINT-MINT so I imagine its worth a few bucks $$:)

Back in the late seventies, I had a large bust, and sold it then for quite a lot of coin. I am sorry that I sold it then. The denticles were actually touching the rim, no space at all between the denticles and the rim.

I do like the design I have a nice Small bust version of it. One of my better Canadian coins in my collection.
