Here are the pics... I believe them to be silver they are about the size of a quarter. If you could tell me if they are and what fineness. Denomination and date if possible from the terrible pics I don't have my camera with me now. (The first two are one coin... the second two are the other)

Not Japan, but Taiwan. Both are 1 dollar coins, and the dates are on the bottom two pics. Pic #3 is dated Year 63 of the Republic (= 1974) while Pic #4 is dated Year 49 (1960).

Your belief about their silver content is unfounded. They're cupronickel.
