I'd buy it, but Aussies would be really upset if this piece of
national numismatic heritage left the country, so I better not...

That is one superb coin & the fact that it has or may have gained 1.38 million $$ in around 2 years would make it a choice investment, must remember to by lotto.

Asking price may be $2million, but it has been for sale a long time at that price. Perhaps a little too inflated in price?

DNA: we have a law in Australia that prohibits the export of our nation's "moveable cultural heritage". That law has been used to prevent any Australian Victoria Crosses being exported. I don't know if it has been applied to any coins yet, but I'm guessing that the 1930 Penny would be third on the List, after the Holey Dollar and the Dump (fifteen pence) of 1813.

Latman: I think this one first came to my attention about two years ago, and the financial fluctuations since then have not helped the seller.

It's ok to export coins as long as they're represented in Australian museums by at least two superior examples.

I wonder if any 1930 penny is housed at a museum yet?

I believe either 3 or 4 are in public museums (can't remember off the top of my head), leaving 2 or 3 in private hands.

There's a photo of the Museum of Victoria's 1930 proof penny here:

You would think she would have a toll free number for this one
Beautiful coin but realistically 2 million bucks is just a speculator price
