Been taking picture to test my photography more than anything. But curious as to what you guys think this coin is?

I think it's MS63/64. Don't know how far off I am.

This looks very clean with some very minute marks on the reverse along with some small rim nicks. The obverse is almost perfect except for the rim nicks at 12:00. This should grade MS64.

I hate to see blown up pictures! You can't even see the rim marks on the coin in hand. Was hoping someone here might say it could grade higher. I think I paid $4 for this coin.

We need to take a perspective on coin photography sometimes, especially when it's this good.

If you need a loupe to see the detail, it's probably not relevant detail to grading. TPG's do not use loupes to grade, when they do, it's no bigger than 5x. Given the harsh honesty of digital images in bright light, these pics are the equivalent of a 5x loupe.

With that said, Moderns get scrutinized at PCGS (whose standards I base my grading on). Mercs, Jeffs, Franklins and newer are graded on a scale much tougher than Morgans are.

I don't care what they say, it's what they do.

The reverse seems weak on this nickel - heavily marked up in the Center of Monticello plus there is that rim issue on the Obverse. Seems like the type of coin one would fine in a "Choice BU" roll.

Note that this could certainly grade higher if (1) The luster is exceptional and (2) Marks don't show at normal magnification. If you can post some more lower magnification pictures under natural light at various angles that would be helpful.

At $4, though, no matter what I think you got a nice price for a 1944-P (!)

At $4, I would have taken extras if you could have. Very nice nickel!

I agree you got a very nice coin for $4.
Certainly MS64 or better depending on in hand eye appeal.
