Let me start out by saying this site is FANTASTIC!!!!! Great people here. ON to the coins. These are pulled from the cash draw at a friends convenience store. The larger coin also writing stamped around rim. Since I don't where it starts I'll start with a star Z IJ star M E T star O N S star G O D. Any ideas?

The large one is from the Netherlands "NEDERLANDEN". I am going to assume that the 1 G is 1 gulden (or guilder) which was the Dutch dollar equivalent before the euro. The eagle motif on the second one looks like it might be Polish. As far as value or the true identity of the second one, I am not sure as my "darkside" knowledge is limited

Your first coin is an Austrian 2 Heller, made of bronze, worth $1.00 in XF, but yours has a hole. KM#2801

The second coin is a 1 Gulden from the Netherlands made of .72 silver (.2315 oz ASW). Yours looks to be in VG condition which would put the value at bullion value. KM#161.1

Great Susan, but I'm still curious about the lettering and stars punched around the rim. Do you know what it means? Thanks

stmpcol - the Netherlands Guilden silver coin had a mintage of 32,350,000 coins and is one of the most common dates of that denomination. In Fine condition it is a bullion coin. The weight of pure silver in the coin is roughly 0.23 ounces.
Rest in Peace
