I've made about five Morgan dollar purchases from this seller. All were advertised as UNC/BU. Three of the five had been cleaned. I now look very closely at the pictures and pass on anything with the slightest hint of a problem. I would not recommend bidding "full retail value" on any of these offerings. This is about the norm with most volume sellers on the 'Bay. Learn to grade and spot problems. If the pictures aren't clear enough to do this ... pass.

Agreed! Well put SN. Only thing I'd add would be to send the seller questions. If they ignor you or give a strange answer, don't bid. Make sure to ask before bidding; you might not be able to get out of the bid.

Thanks. I suspected many I've glanced at are cleaned in some way.

I have had the same experience. I believe he was posted as one of the discouraged sellers on the e-bay forum here. I think he was id'd as cknol at that time

Update...
I decided to take a gamble on a Morgan from this seller. Man, their photography is good. The photo was amazing in it's ability to hide a rim/edge nick. Now I know why coins are rotated a bit for picture taking. I studied the coin next to the picture for 5 minutes and I still don't think I could tell from the picture that I'd get what I got.
That said though, the nick is tiny, the coin is a blazer, not cleaned, and I paid about $5 less than retail. So I'm happy. I would consider buying again from them, exercising extreme caution and maxing out below retail in most cases.

A good coin doctor can clean without you knowing it has been cleaned, aka a 'conservator'. I almost never buy blast white coins online as they are usually cleaned.

I have bought from them in the past, and the tilting of the coin and over lighting does hide some of the minor flaws, most of his buy it n ow coins are not photo-ed this way, but still you can find some good buys if one studies the tricks of the ebay traders...any blast white coin in au has probably been cleaned, I look for stains...and dark spots in the lower portions of the rim and features as cleaning doesn't always take them away but is a sure sign of cleaning...

I purchased two Morgans and had the same question...because the looked so normal and good in the pictures. I havent received them yet so I will defer judgement....BUT when you go to Marketabels store, all coins regardless of year look the same amazing way. I did email him and asked if cleaned his coins. He said he does not...BUT take a look at his online store.
