No worries guys lol I will post pics soon enough I got 4 coins so did my other siblings they were literally all the same coin put in his baks safety box I have 4 of hundreds the rest were set aside in my grandmothers possession. He got all these coins as soon as he returned from war. He wasn't a millionaire for being stupid.

So let me make sure I understand. You got 4 1916 Standing quarters, each of your siblings got 4 1916 Standing quarters; and your grandmother has HUNDREDS of 1916 Standing quarters? This is making me suspicious; the odds of their being a hoard of hundreds of authentic 1916 slqs is extremely unlikely. This is a VERY rare coin. If she truly has hundreds of these, it would definitely make numismatic headlines! It would have taken a lot of effort just to find that many regardless of budget. I'm not saying I dont believe you cadotter; I'm just saying that it may be more likely that they are counterfeit.

Starting to sound like nonsense. These coins were a numismatic sensation in 1916 and were almost immediately pulled out of circulation. Mintage was only 52,000. Most collectors ended up with 1917 coins. You mentioned your grandfather got "hundreds" after World War I. The U.S. did not even enter the war until April 2, 1917 when Wilson asked Congress for a Declaration of War. No troops would have been coming home until 1918 long after circulated examples of this coin, in any quantity, would have been LONG gone.

Which war was it after? If it was WW2 He could have bought them as a collectors items after WW2, and deposited them in the 60s; but how he managed to locate hundreds of them at that time is what is throwing me off, even if he was a millionaire. It seems he would have had to purchase them all together from another hoard, which is why I'd be suspicious that someone had counterfeited them. There were only 52,000 originally minted, and only a fraction is known to have survived. Basically, if cadotter's story is true and his grandmother has hundreds of genuine 1916 SL quarters, I'd think this would be historical if it came to be known by the numismatic community. I'm really just hypothesizing here.

Trust me guys they are 1916 I'm gonna post pics as soon as I get to a computer but you got to love south dakota weather and fenton that picture is not right....they are Standing Liberty quarters from 1916. And yes he served in ww2 he was in the infantry and my other grandpa was in the air force I believe. I didn't come on here to start a feud if I'm a liar or not just trying to make sure they are worth what the people I talked to say they were. Ill get pics as soon ias I can be patient. I just believe my grandfather knew what he was doing because he was a jewelry store ownere for many years in mobridge, sd called larsens jewelry he was well known and well loved. Until a couple years ago he finally solde his store then diagnosed with cancer and then he finally passed earlier this year.

I'm certainly not saying you are a liar, I'm just trying to understand how someone acquired 100s of 1916 slqs. If they are all genuine, you should urge your siblings and grandmother to get them certified as well; since now we are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions of dollars.

If hundreds of these suddenly hit the streets in high grade, the value will be massively diluted. If you trust this guy, this might be a GOOD time to sell your 1916's :)

Heck, I would almost be willing to drive to South Dakota just to see hundreds of 1916 SLQs in one place.

Yeah the brutal South Dakota weather -- Rapid City, South Dakota: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 40s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Current temperature 50.

Nicer than here in VA where it is 36 degrees (!)

This has been a wonderful post!

Have you thought that we do not collect coins, we collect "treasures". The idea that there is hidden treasure somewhere sends our heads spinning, and as we jump to all kinds of conclusions we hope that all turns out to be real.

One thing I can say about cadotter, he/she has kept the interest up, like a master storyteller. It has been two days at the border of my seat, for that Thanks!

What about the reverse? Do they have 3 stars under the eagle?

The SLQ pros can diagnose from those pics. They'll be here.

One of the key diagnostics is the bottom of the gown by Liberty's foot.
