I really hate to be a skeptic, but this coin just doesn't look to me like a 1780. Does anyone know about the "International Collectors Society"? This coin came with a "Certificate of Authenticity". At the bottom of the certificate it has an "issue CST number" of 0764. It claims to be struck in .8333 fine silver and contain .7517 oz. of silver. I guess my question really is, is this some kind of re-strike of the original coin, or is this the true blue? Thanks for any information on this.

Maria Theresa thalers were restruck for centuries and by different authorities with a frosen date 1780. The mark "-X" after the date is the indication that it is such a restrike.

Yes this is a re-strike and not from 1780. Maria Theresia Thalers have been struck from 1780 to the present day. Years ago they were used as trade coins in some areas of the middle east and east Africa. The locals would not accept any other silver currency but this thaler with the 1780 date. Check out this web site for the history and different varieties of this coin. http://www.theresia.name/en

I guess I should have reason to be skeptic then! Thank you for the information. That link gave great info too.
