Hello, Jasper, and welcome to the forum!

What you have is not a coin. Looks like it's a medal issued in 1897 (MDCCCXCVII) to commemorate 60th anniversary of Victoria's reign.

I don't know the particulars, the composition looks bronze to me, and I doubt it is too scarce. Hopefully some people would be more knowledgeable about it's value.
It looks like it is in a very nice condition, would be a keeper in my books!

Second from the bottom on this site is the same medal in silver. Was sold for US$255.

Looks like these were issued in gold, silver, and bronze.

Some info on a gold one: http://atlanta.olx.com/1897-queen-v...iid-51986526

Silver: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ga...m=2899&pos=7

Including technical specs and weight: http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/1897di...ldmedal.html

You should probably weigh it to see which one you have, if it does not have it in or on the case. It's lovely, whichever type it is

Note at the first link that Spink's catalog mentions ones contained in their original box have a premium.

Welcome to the forum!
