I know a lot of you folks like using "stock photos". I still think it should be a photo of the actual coin, period. How long does it take to snap a pic or get a good scan? Right, not that long. I stopped buying from stores that don't post a pic of the actual coin I bid on or buy.
I couldn't agree more. And coins have two sides. Post a photo of both. Even if it's a joined/composite putting both images into one picture.
Even the "junk silver coin" lots that I've sold, I've scanned the actual coins and put those actual scans in my listings. I don't understand at all why anyone would buy something they haven't even seen an actual picture/scan of.
If in doubt, use the "ask a question" and ask "Is the photo the actual coin I'm bidding on?" See what the seller says. If the answer is "No" I'd pass, even if the seller offers to send you another picture by email or whatever.
If there's any dispute,
ebay won't care about emails or photos sent outside the
ebay system. If they won't post a pic (or a link to a pic) directly in the auction description, and they tell you the photo isn't the actual coin they are selling, you'll have nothing to stand on with
ebay (other than their inherent bias toward believing the buyer over the seller).
