Hi,

Quick question.

What does the abbreviation DES translate too in "P M TR POT COS DES II" ?

Can't seem to find it on the usual sites.

Hello,

It means that AP had been designated to serve his second consulship starting on the first day of the new year but that the coin was struck before that date. Hope thats clear

Been trying to think of a modern day analogy but lost for one at the minute.

Sort of of pre-consulship (COS II) designation. Thanks for the help.

I suppose "president elect" would be analogous.
