1: Nobody should be allowed to say, "I think it's real, but judge for yourself." No. You are either selling a real coin or you are not. If you don't know then figure it out. If it's a fake then the words "Replica" or "Copy" must appear in the title in all caps.

2: If any product ends up being counterfeit, it is mandatory to accept a return and the seller pays the return shipping.

Too many people are knowingly selling fake coins and covering their behinds by playing dumb. "Um, well my grandfather just died and left me these coins. I'm no expert but he said they're real. By the way, judge for yourself and no returns"

If you're selling coins on the internet either stand behind their authenticity or declare them to be copies.

Actually, those rules you ask for are in effect.I've returned fake coins using that rule and have been reimbursed by ebay when the seller refused.I don't remember if I got return shipping, but I got original shipping refunded.

What Maineman said. Simply claiming ignorance does not absolve a seller of his responsibilities no matter how much he might want it to be so. A policy of "no returns" might cover "I don't like this coin would you please take it back", but it does not give license to sell counterfeits. While ebay does a pretty poor job of policing listings (IMO), they do a quite good job of buyer protection against fakes, misrepresentation, and other shenanigans.

I definitely agree, although sometimes I automatically give a little leniency to sellers for doing that because that might have been what I would have done if I had found some type of rare stamp or coin before I started collecting. Partly because of laziness on my part and ignorance about the tons of people who don't know anything about coins and the rampancy of counterfeiting when it comes to higher end material.

I definitely know better now.
