you coin I'm talking about the front has the clip marks.
look at the coin .
the anealing comes from with in the coins metal itself.

Yours has a square mark of nickle color right on the front and back with copper around it leavingthe outline .

Someone should have clipped the sides instead of the face of the coin to get a even copper look to it.

look at the pic you posted,
See the face , see the reverse , the color nickle and the color copper.
look at the outline of the copper , thats were the clip was you can see where it was held

You can see the copper color is coming off where it was scratched on the face next to liberty.
Anealed planchet would not scratch off, its a reaction with in the metal itself.
Yours copper is on the surface.

THE MARK from what held the coin is the part thats not plated
You know the part that is nickle colored.

That pic shows even worse the copper is pretty blotchey on the surface and not deep within the coin itself

the one on ebay could be yours or anyones,
no bids,did not sell
Its not graded it does not say its anealed by a TPG grader , just says what the guy wanted it to read as in hope to sell it

the second one , shows deep color copper comming from within the coin to the surface it has been heated to get that color. It wont just scratch off ether.

Yours is scratching off in places , if you took a lil brillo pad to it .. the copper would come off.

As you mentioned you think its dust floating around the chamber that landed on the nickles surface.
thats not how anealing works. Anealing is when the coin is heated a reaction takes place within the metal changing colors

Ok you are right but I still don't see your point. The best way for you is to buy or find the same coin and to scratch the surface.Sorry for me is no way I scratch my coin I love is color.

I have scratched them that how I know the differance between plating ( surface color ) or anealing ( change in color from heating the metal)

The point no TPG will grade the coin " dusted with copper from another plantchet" or " copper plated"
Its ether anealed ( changed color with heat )and graded as so or its not.
