I have several Lincoln cents taken from mint sets and proof sets that have what appear to be water spots in the field. These spots are not black or green, just kind of milky looking. Is there anything that can be done to remove them?
As always thanks in advance.

I'm not sure there is really anything that you could do to remove those spots without damaging the coins. I have some proofs with similar 'milky' spots. Its a fairly common problem.

I would be afraid that anything you tried would only make the coins look worse. Personally, I have come to expect (and accept) things like this, so I would leave them alone. If they really bother you, your best course of action is to look for better examples and upgrade.

It is caused by incomplete removal of planchet washing solution, nothing can be done about it

I've done some experimenting in attempting to remove such stains. Usually not much to loose for common coins but in almost every instance the average solutions do nothing for those. I've tried Acetone, Laquer thinners, Mineral waters, jewlery cleaners and even Lemon Juice. In a few instances they sort of clearified a bit from Jewlery cleaners.

They are irremovable without damaging the coin. I've tried a ton of chemicals and gave up.

I didn't seem them on a proof set, but lots of the circulated coins had them. I was trying to find some gems in circulation, but even if I found one with minimal contact marks they had those dang milky spots all over them... I gave up eventually....
