I have 6 bags of .999 nickel in the vault. You have me thinking about opening a bag and go looking for this variety. But how common is the 1946 "arrow head" variety, I found one by luck........Thanks......William

I have 6 bags of .999 nickel in the safe that I'm contemplating on digging through, I know there's old nickels in the bags. If I find any varieties, are they really worth keeping?.....William

Following data obtained, since 03/01/2011, from 6 collectors ( three sites ), I add 42 coins of 5 cents 1932 Near 2 and 0 coin 5 cents 1932 Far 2 to the global statistic.

Today, the result is :

18 Far 2

1469 Near 2

18/1487 = 1.21 %

I think you might get a better response if the thread was moved to: Canadian Variety & Error Coins, Bank Notes, and Paper Money.

You can ask any of the moderators to move it.

Hi William ( Wild Bill ),

If I have 6 bags of .999 nickel in the vault, I open not only one bag but all the bags.

Probably, you have no chance to find 1925 and 1926 Far 6, because they are already in the hands of collectors and sellers, but you have more chance to find ( as examples ) :

- 1931 Rotated 25 degrees

- 1932 Far 2 : unknown variety before 2007 ( rare )

- 1938 Double 938 and CANAD

- 1941 Double 1941 and CANADA

- 1946 Arrowhead in 6

- 1946 Arrowhead in 6 and arrowed in obverse ( rare variety for 1946 )

- 1947 Dot

- 1951, 1952, 1053 and 1954 No Chrome.

These coins are really worth keeping !

Good luck !

It appears that there really aren't many collectors of Canadian 5ΒΆ coins.

I thought there would be a greater response in this forum. Oh well, at least the info is there for those that are interested.

Thanks for the extra info on other errors/ varieties, some more for me to look for, not that there's many of them circulating in Australia.

Thanks nancyc,

I think that there are many collectors of canadian 5 cents coins.

But I think too that a great % of collectors are interested only by their own collection, their own interest : I cannot change anything about this...., sorry !

Hi nancyc,

More, it's a fact that many collectors search only some coins listed in catalogues : that's their choice and we cannot change nothing on this situation, but I know that they are without the pleasure of the discovery.

Happily, some numismatist have an interest for varieties not recognized, like 5 cents 1932 Far 2.

I love all error coins regardless of which denomination they are or which country they're from.

If you think about it, anyone can collect all the coins that are circulating, but if you take the time and really examine each coin for an error or variety, you may well end up with a real rarity in your collection.

I would much rather have a beat up coin with an error than an unc version of the same coin, but that's just me. Some people might consider me a bit odd, but I enjoy what I do, that's all that matters.

When I find an error that I haven't seen before I get quite excited.
