so I've gotten into it enough that I'm starting to get multiple accts at multiple banks.
can anyone answer these questions/give of some advice?
1) are banks able to see all other bank accts you may have at other banks? bc if they can I'm assuming they'll not want to give you an account if you've got like 5 other banks you use.
2) what should I tell them when they ask why I'm switching/opening with them?

When I opened another bank account I told them I would only do it if they let me make orders like $2 bills or other things like that and they gladly let me open an account

Are you serious?
Banks do not care how many other bank accounts you have. I have 15 accounts at least 6 different banks. Why would a person do business with only one bank? Deposits are only insured for so much under FDIC. I thought everyone spread their money around to multiple banks.
To answer you questions:
1. No banks cannot "see" other accounts at other banks. Now if you deposit a check drawn on one account into another they would know, but wouldn't care.
2. Why would they even ask this? You walk in and say "I want to open a (checking, savings, business, etc..) account". They say "you bet lets do the paperwork".
I think you are worrying too much. You are the customer. They provide a service. This is not money laundering (unless you are actually washing the coins LOL). Find a bank that offers the services you want and don't sweat it.

Well since FDIC will insure to either $100,000 or $250,000 (they changed it a couple years ago, but it was going to change back after a bit), most of us here probably don't reach that limit. That said, I remember reading somewhere about some kind of fund where they would open an account with $100,000 at as many banks as they could (I think they had an agreement with 5,000+ banks) in order to insure a huge quantity of $. Honestly, I have accounts with 5 banks and that is tough enough to keep track of.

I have 5 different bank accounts too. I like to spread out my banking to different banks for a variety of reasons. And of course it's a good idea if you are frequently asking for or depositing lots of coins. Just don't leave any accounts inactive for too long. After a few years it will become unclaimed property.

I re-read my first response and, honestly, it sounded a little condescending....which I did not intend it to be. Sorry about that. It just baffles me how people can let banks intimidate them. You have to remember that they DO NOT GIVE you an account. You deposit your money with them. You are paying them. They all compete for your dollars and in turn offer different services at different prices.
Business accounts are the best. When looking for a dump bank, I made sure they had no limits on coin deposits for business accounts. Getting a business account is as easy as going to your local taxing authority and filing a DBA (doing business as) with the county or city. However, as a rule I never dump at the banks I get boxes from.
Also I didn't mean to imply that I was maxing out my FDIC at each bank LOL. I wish. It is just in today's economic climate, banks seem to be falling like knickers at a sailor convention. Who wants all their eggs in one basket.

oblaka, as I've said in other posts...talk to them..tell them what your plans are and see what they say...my bank is just great with giving and taking them back and they let me know what day they ship coins to the Fed so I don't end up with the same coins. If you are up front from the beginning, you won't have to worry at all.I went through 5 banks to find this one, but it was worth it.

I opened an account not to long ago at a bank where I was getting my boxes of cents for quite awhile without having an account with them because I was feeling a little awkward. When I opened it they asked me why I was opening the account and I told them that it was mainly for using ebay/paypal,they had no problem with it. John1

I too started to laugh. Any bank, like any buisness, could care less who else you do buisness with as long as you do some or all with them. You could have 1, 2, 100 or 10,000 accounts in all different banks and they don't know, don't care, don't ask and why should they. It's sort of like do you think anyone cares if you go to Kmart, Walmart, etc? You could take your car to a million different places for an oil change today and no one really cares how many different ones you use as long as you use theirs. I presently have accounts in 5 different banks and safe deposit boxes in others. No one knows that in any of those banks and no one ever asks and they better not. A long time ago I was working in a large city. I figured no matter where I was I should be able to get money from a bank so I started opening accounts all over the place. Had a real pile of bank books for just in case. Then eventually started to drop some of them. Forgot about one and 17 years later they contacted me about my unused account. Was fun back then.

I've asked for rolls at a bank and the assistant manager offered to order me boxes as an enticement to open an account. He even told me that I could dump the coins in the coin counter like the other roll hunters at the bank. How about that for service!
Open as many accounts as you want, just watch out for fees and the minimum balances to avoid them. Sometimes you can set up a (small) direct deposit to avoid those fees too.

Oblaka, I just returned from dumping $150 in pennies to my bank as I got my usual $50 on Tuesday...the machine filled up so I had to get the teller. She unloaded it and took them to the vault, then sticks her head out and says "Do you want another $100, they are getting ready to ship out to the Fed today ?" That's another example of what I mean by finding the right bank and letting them know what you are doing...it just amazes me..and I don't buy them donuts either...but maybe I should start.

credit unions are linked for some reason.Prob becuase of what they call " share draft " Dont know if thats why they just are, my wifed owed on a suncoast credit union account she closed down It was like a $ 27 returned check fee. We shut down the account becuase of the 27$ her check supposedly bounced but funds should have made the deposit by 1pm becuase her atm slip showed a 12:55 deposit . For some reason the credit union said the deposit in the ATM did not get emptied untill 2pm and the deposit credited the next day.
She used her checkcard as a charge card to get gas at 3pm the transaction went through as debt immediatly withdrew funds instead of declining the transaction, her account balance was $3 dollars ,so they coverd the $10 gas charge and charged her $27 dollars overdraft bounce fee
Our arguement was the bank says deposits by 1pm are credited that day after 1pm the next day its not her fualt they empty the ATM at 2pm and credit the next day
the bank should say all transaction at the counter before 1pm are credited that day ATM transactions are emptied at 2pm a credited the next day
Went to open account for her at my bank GTE credit union , the balanced showed when we tried to open the account. So we just went to a bank down the street and opened a suntrust account
Enough of the rant , credit unions can see the other accounts banks no
