So my grandfather just told me he has (2) three coin sets of gold krugerrands straight from the mint unopened. He doesn't know the year but is sure his father (my great-grandfather) bought them between 1984-1988.

Each set has three different size coins, but he isn't sure of the oz. They have been in a safe deposit box for decades.

Does anyone know what set this might be? He is taking me on a trip to the bank to check them out next weekend, can't wait. I will get pictures.

Hello, mrodmanpc, and welcome to the forum!

Here you can find some info on the SA bullion.
There are four sizes minted, 1 oz., 1/2 oz., 1/4 oz., and 1/10 oz., all with the same design.
You most likely have three consecutive sizes, either the top three or the bottom. Let's hope it's the former!

Spot price would be a good first start at valuation. If you have the 3 higher weights at spot of $1370, then each set is about $2400. How you sell is one factor that determines whether you get a bit more or less than that. If rare or more collectible than bullion, then they would be worth more. Post back when you see exactly what he has.
Rest in Peace

Come on back when you find this thread, and bring some pictures please, would love to see those sets!

Correct me if I am wrong here, but when a topic moves, I don't know there is an easy way to find its new location. I have never had a topic moved before, does one not get an email verification to its new location. Other then visually surfing the new postings, once another new post comes in, no way to locate unless you click in each category....

Of course, simply scrolling down to the blue section under the bottom post on any page eliminates any problems finding a thread, with the three head titles, new topics, recently added topics, and Members for sale section. But if you don't know that, may be a tougher to find....
