That I buy a TPG slabbed coin that costs $500. The value can be anything, I don't think it matters really. I get it and at whatever date I discover it's a fake.

Do any of them guarentee authenticity? If so how do they do that? And what happens if I have proof that it's a fake?

This hasn't happened and I haven't read of it happening, I would just like to know.

Thanks

The first move would be to determine whether the slab was genuine or not, you could very well have a counterfeit coin in a counterfeit slab.

Pretty sure a couple of them do...go on their websites and read their guaranty.I think you'll only find that with the top companies though.

I'll have to check out the pages when I get home, I can't get to them from here.

I never thought about a fake slab. That's pretty tough to determine. Do most fake slabs actually have a legit barcode? I feel like that would be the case.

yes most of them have a legit code on them. The counterfeiters learned that little technique early on in their fake slab endeavor. If you can post photos of the slab there are ways to tell if its fake or not or to give what the chances are that it is fake or legit. Most TPG's that are real Third Party Graders do guarantee authenticity and that is their purpose in this collecting world and they stake their reputation on their guarantee so if the slab is genuine and if they are a real TPG (like PCHGS,NGC,ANACS,ICG and a few others) then they will reimburse you the value of the coin t

PCGS, NGC, ICG and SEGS all guarantee the authenticity of he coins in their slabs. ANACS current guarantee is similar to PCGS and NGC's old ones in that they say they guarantee authenticity but nowhere in the guarantee does it spell out what they will do if the coin is fake. (The ANACS grading guarantee is also weak in that it does not cover copper or coppernickel coins, coins graded before Jan 1 2008, and it does not cover attributions.) Other services are more questionable. None of the services will stand behind the coin if the slab is a fake. (One exception to this, PCGS did extend their guarantee to cover the fake first generation PCGS slabs, but in those cases the slabs were fake but the coins were genuine.)
